Tavistock (/ ˈ t æ v ɪ s t ɒ k / TAV-iss-tok) is an ancient stannary and market town within West Devon, England.It is situated on the River Tavy from which its name derives. At the 2011 census the three electoral wards (North, South and South West) had a population of 13,028. It traces its recorded history back to at least 961 when Tavistock Abbey, whose ruins lie in the centre of the town.

Tavistock BID say that "Tavistock's Dickensian Evening is a magical late-night shopping event that transports you back in time as shop keepers embrace the spirit and dress up in traditional attire." It sees Tavistock transforms into something reminiscent of a Charles Dickens novel from 5pm - 9pm.

Dickensian Evening Whats On Tavistock
Dickensian Evening is organised by Tavistock Business Improvement District (BID), supported by town centre businesses and local charities and organisations. Tavistock Town Council works closely with the BID to provide the Christmas lights. The town centre car parks will be free from 4pm and there will be a Park and Ride service running from.

Thank you Tavistock!'. During the evening, the mayor Cllr Paul Ward,judged the Christmas windows and the teams who had dressed up in Dickensian outfits.
